Eric & Sarah, thank you for reviewing my favorite Sissy Spacek movie, Carrie. If nobody else has told you guys, the book is somewhat different than the movie. But I preferred the movie because of Sissy Spacek.

12:17 In my experience in a music undergrad program and in the professional world, there are music directors/teachers that are abusive, but in all of the ensembles I have been in (academic or professional) I've never seen anything like the character Fletcher. However, from the arrogance of the opera singers and conductors that I've seen and the ones I've heard of, I'm sure there are some Fletcher-level musicians out there. It especially comes out when they're given power in a program, company, or production.

It's interesting to me how people in the comments have mapped the themes of this movie onto recent events. Even some people implying this is Biden's playbook and some saying it's Trumps or using the pandemic as a real life example of St Mary's in the film. However, the author of the graphic novel - as many have pointed out - wrote it as a reaction to Thatcherite politics of the 1980's. Note the once free country turning into a Christo-fascist state. The party logo - 2 crosses on top of each other, The anti-Muslim, anti-gay and anti-immigration sentiment, The neo-fascist imagery/rallies, the Orwellian use of language, authoritarianism, thought control and a police state. Those in power that have financial interests and are willing to subvert democracy for their own narrow gain. These were some the concerns of the author Alan Moore at the time. He was worried about what Thatcher was doing to Britain in the 1980's. Remove the 'V from the symbol and replace it with an 'A' and you get closer to how V thought he could bring down the corrupt state in the Novel.

Yep, that’s PJ Soles from Halloween, the bully in the red hat. This was her first starring movie. She was initially only signed on for the volleyball scene. When walking past Carrie while rehearsing, she instinctively removed her hat and whacked her over the head with it. (That wasn’t in the script). The pins got stuck in Sissy Spacek’s hair. Because she was caught up in the moment, she ruthlessly yanked the hat away and took quite a few hairs out with it. Afterwards, she was horrified and apologized to Sissy. But Brian DePalma was so impressed, he signed her on for the remainder of the film. And he gave her all the extra scenes as Chris Hargensen’s evil sidekick.

I knew it was the French doctor the minute he handed over something and said 'Thanks for the loner, the keys are downstairs' and Kimble joked 'Is there gas in it?' I was wondering why a doctor would need to borrow another doctors car.

I very much appreciate your mention at the end of the kids being kids. Not just Jurassic Park but SO many reactors react to scenes like that with kids and don't take into consideration the fact that they're kids, and like Malcom says, kids get scared. I get annoyed when reactors find kids stupid or illogical in scary situations in movies. Sorry for the rant

I overall, really hate this movie... because you can see there could have been fun solid action film in there.... but it turned out so cheesy and has so many problems. We even walked out of the theatre before the credits rolled. At least The Lost World took itself way more serious (minus 1 or 2 moments). The script is terrible in this third movie. The opening credits just tells you how this movie is gonna feel... cheesy, it has no class. It opens with horror movie credits 😂. They did have some good set pieces I gotta say and the movie was colourful... but it still really feels like a very expensive saturday/sunday made for tv movie. Loved: The Pteranodon Aviary sequence Grant New big bad... Spinosaurus Hated: Openingscene needed a little glimpse of a dinosaur... it feels really cheap now. The annoying couple in basically every scene. Jungle boy, throws gass bombs, collects rex pee... it's so silly. It really is like fan fic. The constant fade in and outs. No subplot, worldbuilding at all. Talking Raptor in plane.... why? Ill placed humor (the dino poop scene... that music... god make it stop). Scrapped Pteranodon attack at the end at the beach... (The Lost World production also scrapped a Pterandon attack sequence at the village) Stealing 2 eggs wouldn't make the Velociraptors abandon their nests to attack the people on the outer rim of the island. The raptors had tons of eggs, they can't count. Barney & Charlie scenes interrupting the suspenceful river sequence. Movie has no real climax. This movie is so childish with some good setpieces/action sequences. You can totally see they threw the script out and penned one just before/ during filming.

I think the setting is just about post-apocalyptic? Like, not everything will be nuked everywhere at once. Especially far-away middle-of-nowhere places. So what we saw are last embers of civilization fizzling out slowly.

Fomin was the chief engineer above Dyatlov. Fomin was the worst and he suffered the least after prison. Bruchanov ( the guy with the deep voice and the black curly hair) was treated badly by this show. He was a good engineer and he was made out the villain. Dyatlov had seen a nuclear accident when he was the engineer on the nuclear submarine project. Fomin was the one that pushed for the test and was the main villain.

They told the west Germans that the nuclear radiation was 2000 roentgens when in fact the radiation was 10 times that. So Joker was never going to work 😮

I think the worst thing is that this happened in reality. I was alive when it happened. I lived in London in 1986 and saw the radioactive cloud pass over London. I was a university student at that time, but we didn’t know much then. I have learned over the last few years.

The pets are loaded with radiation. They had to be exterminated if they got hungry and formed packs they would have been deadly.

The skin goes black because of necrosis. It is a horrible painful way to die, but the bravery of these folk made the difference to the wiping out of Western Europe. The danger was that the three other reactors could have melted down as well. The miners and the firefighters were the true heroes.

At 28:02 watch the face of the Russian ambassador. He's trying not to laugh. Slim Pickens (Major Kong) was the foreman in Blazing Saddles. Sellers improved the entire phone conversation with the Russian premier.

From what I understand the people cannot affect others. The clothing would contain radioactive dust, but the people would not affect others

Boron is a neutron absorber. Sand is used to cover the radiation from escaping into the atmosphere. The problem is the mass of these substances won’t necessarily stop the reactor and can cause the meltdown to drop into the earth and poison the ground water.

The show was a Sky HBO collaboration so they decided English would be the best language for the series. However, all the characters were Russian so we must remember that this tragedy affected Western Europe including the UK where I am from. I was a student when the radioactive cloud spread over London 😮

Paul Ritter who played deputy chief engineer Dyatlov sadly died of brain cancer. Paul is sorely missed and played this character brilliantly.

All the people on the bridge died from the fallout. That is a true fact.

What a way to end an episode. This series was gripping from the beginning to the end. One of the best. "What is the cost of lies".

Nothing is allowed to shed light on anything that makes The Party look bad. This is how totalitarian parties such as the Communist party operate. 1986 was the beginning of the end of my faith in the system. The following year I became conscious of this reshaping when we did a study in a book by Alexander Solzhenitsyn.

The conversations in the helicopter on the way to the reactor is a good insight the minds of the Party.

Hi guys! Fun fact, this movie was filmed entirely in England! Palm trees were imported from Spain! The ruinswere an old gas company in London! Kubrick knows how to use music in his films. Thinking about A Clockworl Orange, 2001 A Space Odyssey and this one.

A cool thing I like to point out is that Nux sacrificed himself after seeing that Immortan Joe died and therefore was not a god. Thus he knows that Valhalla was probably a lie too. Death is the end. And he still sacrifices his life to save his friends.

I saw this movie for my first time today (June 1, 2024). I was not disappointed in the slightest. Even though I am not a fan of movies with exceptionally long run times, I will be the first to say that this was REALLY good!

A spinosaurus would never be able to beat a tyrannosaurus on land it’s just not possible. To start with it has a very narrow snout something that’s not made for lots of power. The Tyrannosaurus rex has a very thick skull and strong bone structure which it would most likely use to ram the spinosaurus breaking several of its bones. The best chance a spinosaurus would have against the T-Rex is if it was near water and it could drown it because the T-Rex could not swim very well and because of its dense bones it would sink like a rock. Also they really scaled up both dinosaurs in this movie but in real life the T-Rex would be a small bit bigger.
